Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. FileCPU runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is read into memory, rendered to images locally, and handed back to you as a download. Nothing is ever transmitted or stored.
What does dpi mean, and which should I pick?
Dots per inch — how many image pixels are used per inch of page. 96 dpi is right for screens (web, slides, chat). 150 dpi is the everyday default: sharp on screen and passable in print. 300 dpi is print quality, with noticeably larger files.
What do I get — one file or many?
A one-page PDF becomes a single JPG. A multi-page PDF becomes one JPG per page, packed into a zip archive named after your document. Each image is named like document-p01.jpg so the order is obvious.
Why JPG and not PNG?
JPG is what the name promises and what most people need: universally openable and much smaller. PNG suits screenshots and line art with text you want pixel-crisp — a PNG option may come later.
What about password-protected PDFs?
They cannot be converted. Unlock them first (with the password you own), then add the unlocked copy. FileCPU tells you clearly instead of failing silently.
How many pages can I convert?
Documents up to 200 pages and 25 MB. Pages are processed one at a time to keep memory use low, so long documents just take a little longer.
