Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. FileCPU runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF is read into memory, split locally, and handed back to you as a download. Nothing is ever transmitted or stored.

How do I write page ranges?

Use commas between selections and hyphens for spans: "1-3, 5, 8-10" creates three groups — pages 1 to 3, page 5, and pages 8 to 10. The order you write is the order you get, and repeating a page is allowed.

What is the difference between the three modes?

"Extract ranges" puts the pages you pick into one new PDF. "Every N pages" cuts the document into chunks of a fixed size. "Burst all pages" turns every page into its own PDF, delivered together as a zip.

Why is my output bigger than the original?

Pages that share fonts or images carry a copy of those resources into each output file, so split results can add up to more than the source. That is normal for splitting — run the results through Compress PDF afterwards if size matters.

How many pages can I split?

Documents up to 200 pages and 25 MB per file. The limits exist because all the work happens in your browser's memory.

What about password-protected PDFs?

They cannot be split. Unlock them first (with the password you own), then add the unlocked copy. FileCPU tells you clearly instead of failing silently.
