How it works

  1. 1Drop your JPG, PNG or WebP images into the box
  2. 2Pick Smart compression, or Target size for an exact KB limit
  3. 3Click "Compress" — everything happens on your device
  4. 4Download the smaller images — individually or as a ZIP

Compress an image to 100 KB, 200 KB or any exact limit

Most compression jobs are really limit jobs: a job portal that accepts "photo under 200 KB", a government form that rejects anything over 100 KB, a visa application with a hard upload cap. Target-size mode was built for exactly this. Pick a limit — 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or a custom number — and the compressor finds the highest quality that stays under it, stepping dimensions down only if quality alone cannot reach the target.

The result screen shows the exact size of every output file, so you can confirm the limit is met before you download. If an image is already under your target, it is returned untouched with a note — we never hand you a "compressed" file that is bigger than what you started with.

Why smaller images matter

Emails bounce past attachment limits, application forms reject oversized uploads, and websites crawl when their images weigh megabytes. A phone photo today is 3–8 MB — far past every common limit. Recompressing at a sensible quality usually cuts 60–80% of the size with no visible difference on screen.

The honest exception: an image that is already well-compressed has little left to give. Smart mode tells you when that happens instead of pretending — the original comes back with an "already optimized" note.

JPG, PNG and WebP — how each compresses

JPG and WebP are re-encoded at the quality you allow: quality 85 is the everyday sweet spot where savings are large and artifacts invisible; 70 is the sharing floor. WebP usually compresses furthest of the three.

PNG is lossless, so quality-based recompression cannot shrink it — that is physics, not a limitation of this tool. Target-size mode still works for PNG by gently reducing dimensions, and converting a PNG to JPG or WebP with WebP to PNG-style tools or our converters usually saves the most. A dedicated PNG optimizer is on the roadmap.

Your photos never leave your device

The images people compress are their most practical ones: ID photos for applications, scans of documents, family pictures for email. They should not have to ride to a stranger's server to lose a few hundred kilobytes. Every byte of compression here happens in your browser — files are read from your disk, re-encoded on your CPU, and written straight back.

Once the page has loaded, the compression itself runs offline: your connection can drop mid-job and the work still finishes. No copy of any image ever exists anywhere except on your machine.

Free, unlimited, no watermark

No account, no daily cap, no watermark stamped on your images, no "premium" tier. Your browser does the work, so it costs nothing to serve — the same reason there is no limit on how many batches you run. Up to 30 images at once, each up to 25 MB, with a single ZIP download when you convert many.

Need different dimensions rather than a smaller file? Resize Image changes pixels; if your photos are in iPhone HEIC format, HEIC to JPG converts them first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 200 KB?

Switch to Target size, pick the 200 KB preset (or type any custom number), and compress. The tool searches for the highest quality that stays under 200 KB and reduces dimensions only if quality alone cannot get there. The result screen shows the exact final size.

How do I reduce a photo's size for a job or visa application?

Check the form's limit first — most portals want 100 KB or 200 KB. Use Target size mode with that limit, then download and upload. If the form also demands specific pixel dimensions, resize the image first, then compress.

Is this image compressor really free?

Yes — no accounts, no daily limits, no watermarks, no premium tier. Compression runs on your device, so there is no server cost to recover from you.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No — files never leave your device. Images are read into memory, compressed locally, and written back to your device.

Why did my PNG not get smaller?

PNG is a lossless format — re-encoding it cannot remove information the way JPG compression can. Use Target size mode (which gently reduces dimensions), or convert the PNG to JPG or WebP, which typically shrinks it dramatically.

Does compression reduce image quality?

Some, invisibly. Smart mode re-encodes at quality 85, where savings are large and the difference is not visible at normal viewing. Target mode uses the highest quality that fits your limit, dropping quality before it drops pixels.

How many images can I compress at once?

Up to 30 images per batch, each up to 25 MB. Multiple results are delivered as a single ZIP file. There is no limit on how many batches you run.

Which formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WebP compress directly. For iPhone HEIC photos, convert them to JPG first with our HEIC to JPG tool, then compress here.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. The compressor runs in any modern mobile browser — tap to pick photos from your library, compress, and save the results to your downloads or Files app.

What is the difference between Smart and Target size?

Smart makes images as small as possible at high quality — right for email and websites. Target size hits a KB limit you specify — right for forms, portals and applications that enforce a maximum.
