  3. 3Click "Convert" — everything happens on your device
  4. 4Download your JPGs — individually or as a ZIP

Why iPhones save photos as HEIC

Since iOS 11, iPhones photograph in HEIC by default — a modern format that stores the same picture in roughly half the space of a JPG. Apple's own apps read it fine, but the rest of the world often does not: Windows without a paid codec, older photo editors, desktop software and countless web forms reject the file or refuse to open it.

So the photo is fine and the format is the problem. Converting HEIC to JPG turns an iPhone photo into the one format every device, program and form on earth accepts.

Convert without uploading — your photos stay yours

Photos are personal: family pictures, ID photos for applications, screenshots of private conversations. Most HEIC converters quietly upload them to a server, process them there, and keep copies for hours per their own terms. Here the conversion runs inside your browser using WebAssembly — the file is decoded on your CPU and the JPG is written straight back to your disk.

Once the page has loaded, the conversion works offline: your internet can drop mid-batch and the work still finishes. No copy of any photo ever exists anywhere except on your machine.

Bulk conversion, up to 30 photos at a time

Nobody has one HEIC file. Drop up to 30 at once (each up to 25 MB), and the converted JPGs arrive as a single ZIP, named after your originals. There is no daily cap and no signup wall — run as many batches as you like, because your device is doing the work, not a server with a meter.

Quality choices — and an honest note on file size

Balanced (quality 85) is right for almost everything: sharp on screen, sensible in size. High keeps near-original fidelity for printing; Smallest fits more photos per email.

One honest note: HEIC is the more efficient format, so a JPG of the same photo is usually about twice the size of the HEIC it came from — same picture, older container. If the JPG needs to fit a portal limit, run it through Compress Image target mode afterwards.

Stop shooting HEIC entirely (if you want)

If your forms and software keep choking on HEIC, your iPhone can stop creating them: Settings → Camera → Formats → choose "Most Compatible", and new photos are saved as JPG. The trade-off is storage — HEIC files are about half the size — which is exactly why Apple switched.

Already-taken HEICs stay HEIC, so this converter remains the bridge for your existing library. For photos that need specific dimensions afterwards, Resize Image handles passport and social sizes.

Frequently asked questions

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

Yes — no accounts, no watermarks, no daily limits, no premium tier. The conversion runs on your device, so there is no server cost to pass on to you.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No — files never leave your device. The conversion runs in your browser via WebAssembly: photos are read from your disk, decoded locally, and the JPGs are written back to your machine.

Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

It is a re-encode, so a small quality change is possible, but at Balanced or High the result looks the same on screen. JPG cannot store quite as much detail per byte as HEIC, which is why the JPG file is usually larger.

How many photos can I convert at once?

Up to 30 per batch, each up to 25 MB, with all results delivered as one ZIP. There is no limit on batches.

Why is my JPG bigger than the original HEIC?

Because HEIC is a newer, more efficient format — that is why Apple uses it. The picture is the same; the JPG container just needs more bytes to hold it. Use Compress Image afterwards if the JPG must fit a size limit.

Does it work on Windows?

Yes — this is the classic fix for "my PC cannot open HEIC". It runs in any modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) on Windows, macOS and Linux, with nothing to install and no codec to buy.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG on my iPhone?

Yes. Open this page in Safari, tap to select photos from your library, convert, and save the results to Files or Photos.

Is EXIF metadata like location kept?

No — the re-encode produces a clean JPG without the original metadata, including GPS coordinates. For photos heading to forms and strangers, losing the location tag is a feature, not a bug.

What is the difference between HEIC and JPG?

Both compress photos. HEIC (from 2017) stores the same quality in about half the bytes of JPG (from 1992), but JPG is universally accepted by every app, device and website — which is why conversion exists.

Can I convert HEIC to PNG instead?

This tool outputs JPG, which is what nearly every form and app wants. PNG output for HEIC is on the roadmap.
