Why convert PNG to JPG

PNG is perfect and heavy: lossless, pixel-exact, and often enormous. A screenshot or photo saved as PNG can weigh 5–20× its JPG equivalent, which is exactly why email attachments bounce, upload forms complain and pages load slowly.

JPG is the everyday container — smaller by design, accepted by every form, chat and program. For photos, scans and anything headed somewhere with a size limit, converting PNG to JPG is the fastest size win there is.

Transparency flattens to white

JPG cannot store transparent areas, so see-through parts of the PNG become white during conversion. Photos and scans are unaffected — they had no transparency anyway. Logos and cutouts will gain a white background; if the transparency itself matters, keep the PNG or pick a format that carries alpha.

A white background is precisely what most forms and documents want anyway: a photo of a document on white paper should stay on white.

How much smaller will it get?

For photos and scans, typically 3–10× smaller at Balanced quality with no visible difference. Screenshots with large flat areas compress well too. The result screen shows before and after sizes for every file, so you see the exact savings before downloading.

If you need a specific ceiling — "under 200 KB" for a form — convert here first, then run the JPG through Compress Image target mode.

Screenshots and tiny text — choose High

JPG softens razor-sharp edges slightly, and on screenshots or images full of small text that softening can be visible at 100% zoom. If your PNG is mostly text or line art, pick the High preset — or keep the PNG, which stays pixel-crisp at the cost of size.

For everything photographic, Balanced is indistinguishable from the original on screen.

Private, offline, free

The conversion runs entirely in your browser — decode, flatten, re-encode, save to disk. Files never leave your device, and after the page loads the work finishes even with the connection down. No account, no watermark, up to 30 images per batch as a single ZIP.

Going the other way — JPGs back to lossless PNG — is the job of JPG to PNG.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PNG to JPG converter free?

Yes — no signup, no watermark, no daily limits, no premium tier. Conversion runs on your device, so there is no server cost.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No — files never leave your device. PNGs are read from your disk, converted locally, and the JPGs are written back.

Will converting PNG to JPG reduce quality?

JPG compression discards some information, but at Balanced quality the difference is not visible on screen for photos. For screenshots and small text, choose High — or stay with PNG, which is lossless.

What happens to transparent backgrounds?

They become white — JPG cannot store transparency. For photos this changes nothing; for logos and cutouts it means a white background is added.

How many images can I convert at once?

Up to 30 per batch, each up to 25 MB, with all results in one ZIP. Run as many batches as you like.

Why is the JPG so much smaller than my PNG?

PNG stores every pixel losslessly; JPG compresses photographic content aggressively. For photos this is a free lunch — a fraction of the size, no visible difference.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes — any modern mobile browser. Select PNGs from your library, convert, save the JPGs.

Should I keep PNG or switch to JPG?

Photos, scans and form uploads — JPG. Images that need transparency or pixel-perfect text — PNG. Converting is free, so try both and compare.

Can I hit an exact KB limit after converting?

Yes. Convert here first, then run the result through Compress Image in Target size mode — it finds the highest quality that fits your limit.
